Fair warning, this post is mainly to brag. But let me tell you why I’m doing it anyway.
I recently accomplished a goal that I have been working towards for years. I finally have the “Senior” title in front of “Software Engineer”! Feels like I’ve been clawing my way to this momentous achievement for the past three years. Laser focused on getting the approval that I really am good at my job, this is the one thing I’ve been working towards since I was hired 7 years ago. I’m sure my mentors and friends are sick of hearing about it.
While this has been the hardest fought accomplishment and biggest goal of my life, when I finally got the promotion a few weeks ago, it felt a little like a letdown. It’s been a goal for so long that now I don’t know what goal to replace it with.
Instead, I’m using this platform to remind myself: it was a big deal! And I DID IT!
I’ll save the “what’s next?” for down the road, and try to bask in a sense of pride that’s a little uncharacteristic, but not undeserved.
