Software developer mom life
Succeeding sometimes ~ Failing spectacularly ~ Growing incrementally
For mothers who are also still in progress
My name is Ashley and I’m a chronically curious creature. I’ve always loved learning new things, and that’s what brought me to a career as a software developer. Programming has been a passion of mine for over a decade, and I’ve spent the last eight years working as a software engineer.
I know by experience being a woman in tech can be isolating at times, and it became even more so when I went back to work in 2018 following the birth of my son. The internet has been a source of friendship and support for me as I learn to balance life as a working mother.
Many of the things I share here are a sort of cathartic journaling exercise, helping me think through what I’m feeling and giving me an outlet. But others are lessons I’ve learned that want to share so that others can feel less alone.
I’ve been a software developer for twice as long as I’ve been a mom, but I don’t presume to be an expert in either respect. I merely share the ups and downs of my experience and and the lessons I learn that can transfer from one to another. I want to raise my child with a growth mindset by modeling that attitude of tenacity throughout my life.
I hope you’ll enjoy following along with my journey and that you can find something to relate to within these chronicles of my life.
